Search your code and documents by meaning.

Ixos finds files from a description, not just exact words. It runs on your computer and works from a shortcut, the terminal, or your AI agent.

curl.exe -fL https://github.com/Thunderboltdy-10/ixos/releases/latest/download/ixos-install-Windows-X64.exe -o "$env:TEMP/ixos-install.exe"; if ($LASTEXITCODE -eq 0) { & "$env:TEMP/ixos-install.exe" }

That's the median for a search in a folder Ixos has already seen, over 260 searches on a Ryzen 7 5800X. The first search in a new folder takes a few seconds while Ixos reads each file once.

Keywords and meaning, together.

Keyword search is precise but misses files that use different words. Search by meaning gets the idea but can be vague. Ixos scores every file both ways and ranks them by the average.

Keywords
BM25 over the words in each file, so exact names still win.
Meaning
A small Model2Vec model on the CPU compares what the query and each passage are about.
fix spelling mistakes in the query
  1. engine.rsixos-core/src
  2. runtime.rsixos-cli/src
  3. runtime.rsixos-cli/tests
  4. typo.rsixos-core/src
  5. snippet.rsixos-core/src
  6. mcp.rsixos-cli/src

Real results from the Ixos source code. typo.rs is the file that corrects spelling; by keywords alone it comes fourth.

A window for longer searches.

The quick search covers most lookups. When you want to look around, the main window keeps the full list on the left and the file on the right, scrolled to the passage. Pick a folder, switch between code and documents, and open the file where it lives.

Ixos

The index lives on the file.

Ixos saves a small record in each file's metadata, so there's no database to manage and nothing leaves your computer. Change a file and only that file is read again.

Where a drive can't hold metadata, Ixos keeps the record in its own cache instead. Removing records is safe; Ixos rebuilds them on the next search.

A 154-page PDF11.6 MB file · 620 B record
The record is 0.005% of the file.
engine.rs56 KB file · 2.3 KB at most record
Long files keep up to eight passages, still 4% of the file.
typo.rs3.4 KB file · 648 B record
Small files get small records too.

Give it to your agent.

Add Ixos as an MCP server and your agent can search, grep and read with exact line numbers. Answers stay under 6 KB, so they don't fill up its context.

1. Install once · PowerShell
& ([scriptblock]::Create((irm https://github.com/Thunderboltdy-10/ixos/releases/latest/download/install-cli.ps1)))

Includes the CLI, MCP and skill. The commands below use the installed engine directly.

2. Register with your agent. Replace the example project path with your own.
